Updates CEI norms for cables
The Italian Electrotechnical Committee (CEI) has published the updated CEI norms for cables and CEI-UNEL, with particular reference to the adjustments required of Regolamento UE 305/2011 (CPR). This last applies to construction products and to the legislative and Community provisions in force.
These are the main documents published:
CEI NORMS FOR CABLES: CEI-UNEL 35023
CEI-UNEL 35023 “Energy cables for rated voltage U equal to 1 kV“.
The above document contains voltage drop tables for cables with:
- red copper conductor insulated with elastomeric material;
- red copper conductor insulated with thermoplastic material;
- aluminium conductor insulated with elastomeric material.
The calculated tables are valid for elastomeric and thermoplastic insulated cables with construction characteristics in compliance with current CEI and CEI-UNEL standards.
The current edition of May 2020 supersedes the previous CEI-UNEL 35023 (July 2012).
CEI NORMS FOR CABLES: CEI-UNEL 35024
CEI-UNEL 35024: “Electric cables insulated with elastomeric or thermoplastic material for rated voltages up to 1 000 V for alternating current and 1 500 V for direct current – Current carrying capacities in the permanent state for laying in air.
This CEI-UNEL table applies to the ratings of electrical cables used in fixed installations, including those complying with EU Regulation 305/2011 (CPR).
This applies to cables operating in systems for nominal voltage up to 1000 V in alternating current at an industrial frequency (50 Hz or 60 Hz) and 1500 V in direct current, having construction characteristics compliant with current CEI and CEI-UNEL standards.
The new and current edition replaces CEI-UNEL 35024/1, CEI-UNEL 35024/2 and CEI-UNEL 35024/1.
CEI NORMS FOR CABLES: CEI 20-105; V2
Cei 20-105 “Cables for use in fixed automatic fire detection and fire alarm systems having special fire performance characteristics in compliance with the Construction Products Regulation (CPR). Cables with additional fire performance – Rated voltage: U0/U” 100/100 V”.
This change was necessary to update the normative and constructive references aimed at guaranteeing the fulfilment of the requirements provided for by Regulation (EU) 305/2011 (CPR) in terms of reaction to fire and implemented in Italy using Standard CEI UNEL 35016.
The contents of this variant were necessary to comply with the mandatory requirements of Legislative Decree 106/2017 in terms of CE marking for the characteristic of reaction to fire.
All cables in IEC Standard 20-105; V2 meet the essential health and safety requirements of the Low Voltage Directive (2014/35/EU).
The fire resistance performance of the products – on the other hand – is guaranteed through compliance with the tests carried out according to CEI EN 50200.
